Question: Why should I take up the Online Auslan Family Signs Course?
Answer: With the Online Auslan Family Course, you and your family
will have access to Auslan Family conversational videos with subtitles so
that you can learn Auslan in the comfort of your own home, and at your own pace.
You can revisit any Auslan videos as many times as you like. Also, you have the bonus
of looking up signs and conversational phrases for whatever you are doing at
that time with your child, be it bed time, bath time, going out, etc.
Question: Are the videos in the Online Auslan Course taught by a qualified Auslan
Answer: Yes, the videos in this Online Auslan Course is being taught by a Deaf
native Auslan user who previously worked as a Teacher of the Deaf with LOTE Auslan qualifications.
Question: From which state does the signs from the Online Auslan
Answer: The signs used in the videos is from the Victorian
state, which uses the Southern Dialect of Auslan. Most of the signs are the same all over Australia, except for a few.
If you are from Qld or NSW (which uses the Northern Dialect of Auslan), you may like to double check the signs
with someone who is knowledgeable about the signs from your State.
NSW and QLD signs may be added in this course in the future if there is a
demand for it. For the e-books, we have two versions - a Vic version and a
Question: Will I get a certification for completing this course?
Answer: This is a self-regulated course, there are questions at the
end of the course, if you answer questions correctly, you will be given
access to download a general certification of completion where you can print
and put your name on it. If you are doing this online course with an Auslan
Tutor, your Auslan Tutor may provide you with a Certificate showing that you
have undertaken and completed this course. However, if you would like a national recognition,
Melbourne Polytechnic provides
certified courses in Auslan and a Diploma in Auslan.
Question: Does this Online Course replace my need for an Auslan tutor?
Answer: You can do this online course without an Auslan tutor.
However, having an Auslan tutor to help you along will be an added bonus as they would be able to provide you with feedback
along the way, which will be an invaluable asset. You could ask them to watch you
while you sign the conversations from the videos, to let you know whether you are signing
them properly (using the correct handshapes, facial expressions, etc), and
also you can use this opportunity to ask
them to let you know of any specific signs that your State uses, which may
be different to the Victorian signs being used in this Course.
